The Card Shop in Granbury is a mostly-hidden gem. Sure, not everyone is into Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, and Pokémon. The best way I can describe this place is by comparing it to the Stewart's Comic Book Shop in the Big Bang Theory, but without Comic Books. There always seems to be people in here hanging out, playing games, chatting about playing games, or getting help with playing games better. The family that owns The Card Shop is extremely passionate about what they do and you can feel that when you enter the store. If you are looking for a Wahoo board, go to The Wagon Yard. If you are looking for something a little more ... cerebral, then this is your place!

The owner is professional and nice. Friday night is a friendly knowledgeable accepting group of people. They are patient with new players like myself and will help you learn how to play.

With that said, they will not tell you that playing a pre-con is not a good idea. So I'll do it for you. Pre-cons, tribal,... leave them at home. Play that with your immediate friend group, not at the shop. Build a cEDH deck or proxy a cEDH deck. Playing and learning is fun, watching other people play while you're locked out is not. Driving 45 mins for someone to play something that limits creatures at the table to 2 when you’re playing a creature deck or having your lands not untap during your untap step isn't really a fun learning experience. If you're looking to learn you're better off just watching some YouTube videos or better yet, build a cEDH deck, go to the shop and learn to play with THAT. If they are playing a popular cEDH commander and have power 9 in the deck, it's probably not casual and it's not going to be fun for you and your pre-con. Ask questions to gauge power level properly and don't just bring a pre-con. Bring a couple competitive decks and maybe a casual or two. 1/20 times you'll be playing against an actual casual person playing a slightly upgraded pre-con, however I’ve never played against 3 casual people, there’s always at least one or two tryhards. Lastly, tryhards rely heavily on artifacts, enchantments, and non-basic lands. Use that however you see fit. GIYF. GLHF.

*this is not meant as a criticism of the shop, just words of advice I wish was imparted on me when I first started playing.

Played magic here for 6 weeks. Got to know the staff and regulars well. Played with the owners daily. Spent $500+ is sealed and unsealed product. Last I visited I was looking for a specific card, told a fellow patron what I guessed the value of said card was, when the Manager, Jonah found it he then charged me the number I had said, which was wrong, after his brother, Noah had, discretely, told him the correct price, a $10 difference, and in front of me said, "well he said $80" and proceeded to gouge me. They lost a good customer over $10. What a shame. Jonah will run this place into the ground. Would not recommend a visit here.

This place is great, Jonah and Noah are very welcoming and knowledgeable. Moved here a couple months ago and have been in almost everyday since. Would totally recommend this place. If you are in town definitely stop by!
